and the colourful threads are to the reverse as far as I can tell - the border to either end has been added by hand

Antique teens dark brown black velvet tam style hat with maribou apple juice bakelite I assume the silk trainA wonderful example of a late 1910s (c. 1918 to 1919?) very well made tam style velvet hat, with large maribou pompom style trim. Its a very dark brown evenly so, so I dont think its necessarily fade. It has a suitably period inner liner with draw string. The makers mark in gilt is seen beneath; High Class Milliners ~ H & H Godden ~ Stafford Measures: External dia 12 Internal dia 8 or 22. 5 approx circ Condition: Very good. A couple of fronds of the
